Emphasizing the importance of explaining the Erenköy Resistance to young generations for a sustainable future Ahmet Savaşan, pointed out that August 8, 1964 was a turning point in the Turkish Cypriot People's struggle for existence.

ERENKÖY IS THE CORNERSTONE OF THE ROAD TO THE FOUNDING OF KKTC...

Underlining that the Erenkoy Resistance is a drama and tragedy unprecedented in the history of the world, Savaşan reminded that the students of that period, who left their education, especially in Turkey, and ran to Erenkoy for resistance, fought shoulder to shoulder with the people of the region and held a strategic bridgehead, and said that “this resistance formed the cornerstones of the road to the July 20 Peace Operation and the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”.

TWO YEARS OF OPEN PRISON LIFE IN ERENKÖY...

Stating that many of those who participated in this resistance, armed with two or three weeks of shooting training, without any planned military organization and command center, fought a historic struggle together with the local people under siege in a steep and mountainous region in arrangements that could not even be considered positions, Savaşan reminded that some of these exceptional people, who could not contact their families for a long time, became martyrs or veterans, some witnessed the death of their friend next to them without knowing life, and the majority lived an open prison life for two years because they could not leave the region despite the end of the war.
